I learned that Baby Angelo was chosen as one of Cinemalaya 2008’s ten finalists days before it was announced. I found out on my birthday. Which made for a very… festive party.
And because I want to remember this time in my life I’m opening another blog about the making of this film.
When an aborted fetus is found in the dumpster of a run-down apartment complex, an informal investigation ensues. A reclusive old man with curious ramblings; a landlord with an overzealous thirst for justice; and a young husband and wife whose own past threatens to unravel their marriage–these are just some of the tenants whose lives are suddenly exposed in the search for the murderer of the baby in the garbage.
The concept came quickly, in 30 minutes in fact, after the same event happened in our building. I typed the concept up and submitted it the next day. Cinemalaya chose Baby Angelo and since then the tenants have been crossing in and out of my mind, showing their faces and their nasty secrets. Asking to be put on paper.
I’m writing this with Abi Aquino, copywriter and actress extraordinaire, and she is Yasmin! Kurdi’s! Favorite! Writer! Ever! as declared by Teen Beat magazine. Don’t let that fool you. Her observations SLICE through paper.
Of course, the old Arkeo crew will be riding with me on this journey, and hopefully a few more great talents along the way. Talk to you all soon.
